Though experiences are unique to the individual, spiritual awakening has been described as:
In this process of awakening you may find parts of yourself not in alignment with the whole. In other words, at times we may be conflicted or at war with ourselves. Confusion, anger jealousy, boredom, self-hatred, anxiety, self destruction. We can be "stuck in the past" or trying to escape our current experience. We may have had hurts handed down to us before we had a conscious choice to accept them. We have become conditioned not only through marketing and advertising to be a certain way and like certain things, but through family beliefs and values, religion, culture, and society.
Our conditioning may say an experience is "good or bad". If it is "good" we try to do more of it and accept it. If it is "bad" we try to avoid it. When we don't fully accept what's happening, we push that part of ourselves away causing a snooze effect, thus creating "suffering."
It is through awareness that we move to higher levels of consciousness. It is through inner awareness that we become unconditioned, unlimited, perfect, just the way we are. Be free to be you in every given moment, as opposed to a programmed response that negates you from your own happiness, freedom, inner peace, stillness, wholeness, Oneness.
